On Sunday we celebrated Brax's 2nd birthday a week early with family. After his love for construction and all things dump trucks (thank you, Plum Creek Elementary construction!), I decided to do a Dig It theme.
I have to say, planning a boy's birthday party seems SO much nicer. We pretty much had all of the decorations in form of dump trucks. I may have spent a whopping $10 at Hobby Lobby for the party favors, tablecloth, and a few decorations to hang here and there to spruce up the place.
I made a super-simple chocolate sheet cake (you know, the Texas-sized ones that have lots of sugar, flour, butter, powdered sugar, and are melt-in-your-mouth!) and ran "tracks" through it with one of Brax's trucks.
I saw this cute idea on Pinterest, where you just use masking tape to create a street with a black tablecloth, complete with a few dump trucks here and there (and puppy chow in the center one!).
Mama ran out of time to order Brax's birthday shirt from a crafty friend, so instead I bought a solid t-shirt and an iron-on transfer (again, only spending about $5 total thanks to a shirt coupon and Hobby Lobby coupon). Two minutes and some ironing later (yes, I actually broke out the iron!) and we had a nice-looking dump truck shirt!
Brax had a great time eating Ken's pizza (his favorite!), his cake and ice cream, and opening gifts with his cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and us.
He received some cute clothes, more tractors and dump trucks, a ball-mit, baseball cards (you can guess who that combo was from!), VeggieTales, puzzles, stuffed elephant, and of course, Bucky the pirate ship from Disney's Jake and the Never Land Pirates.
We're on birthday party detox around here. Lots of whining, fighting, tears, and "entitlement" issues this morning. It's getting better - and it's only the start! Birthday week continues as we celebrate Brax's birthday just the four of us on his "real" day - next Sunday the 13th. More to come!
