We've done lots of decorating these last few weeks as we prepare for Christmas.
During Thanksgiving break, we did our annual house decorating. This year was the first one we had the piano in our usual tree spot, so we had to do some shifting around. Oh, the drama! ;)
We're all about simplicity in the Conkling casa. While we've received or bought decorations from year to year, I find it easier to keep it simple with two young children around - and it makes clean-up in late December/early January much nicer, too.
Each child has a tree in his/her room that they are over the moon in love with. We do most of their homemade or personal ornaments on that tree - it's such a treat to see their decorative styles.
Last weekend we went to Hutch Rec's annual gingerbread house decorating event at Memorial Hall. I love, love, love this event (and I'm not just saying that because I'm the marketing director for HRC and it's my job!). It's a great community event and fun to do with friends. Plus - and this is the best part! - you don't have to worry about the clean-up.
And last but not least, we did our annual sugar cookie decorating "duties" this past week. It was a super cold day and we needed to kill a few hours before daddy came home from practice. Mackie chose a bright pink frosting (which she later turned to purple-gray with Brax's frosting) while Brax chose bright blue.
I was super impressed that they each kept their frosting on the cookies - and the sprinkles didn't seem to scatter everywhere, either! I've learned the best way to frost and sprinkle cookies with these two (okay, Brax) is to each have a placemat and put a few cookies on a paper plate. Easy clean-up and less mess = great win!
