Ah, Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving. Five days purposely set aside to be with family and celebrate the abundance of blessings that God has given us.
This year we enjoyed even more family time and forced to hunker down together, as these past five days of Thanksgiving break/vacation have been filled with rain, ice, sleet, and later today - snow flurries.
We kicked off Thanksgiving morning with our tradition of the Gazaway family Run for Pie 5K in the Prairie Hills neighborhood. It didn't go quite as planned - our BOB blew a tire, temps dropped as the rain continued to fall, kids were freezing and ended up running a .5-mile with daddy as mama finished the 5K - but we had an enjoyable time with several of our running friends. We celebrated with a trip to Starbucks followed by snuggling up to the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.
We continued the Thanksgiving celebration all afternoon and evening at my parents' house. It was simple and sweet - just our family, my parents, and grandparents, and it was great. We ate, played cards, ate some more, and then went bowling! It's been a Preston Thanksgiving tradition to bowl, which stopped in recent years due to having no bowling alley in town.
Our tradition made a come-back, as did my dad's tassels on his bowling shoes (via 1980). It was the perfect way to burn off energy as the rain continued to fall and turn into ice. Brax enjoyed his first time bowling and about beat his mama!
We hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving holiday. We have used this down time (and bad weather) to clean house, prepare for Christmas, and enjoy lots and lots of snuggles, hot chocolate, and the start of Christmas movies. It's the most wonderful time of the year!
